Your new job
Electronics technician for office machines (information electronics technician) (m/f/d)
What is it about?
Information electronics technicians install and maintain information technology systems. For example, they sell and repair video and audio equipment or set up data technology devices.
Customer support and troubleshooting
Information electronics technicians are the contact persons for technical problems in the workshops of service companies. In telephone conversations with customers, they try to clarify why the respective device is no longer working by asking specific questions. You may already be able to solve the problem with this information. If this is not possible, the defective appliances are taken to the workshop. This is where information electronics technicians go troubleshooting. For example, they open the rear panel of a television to detect temperature errors that affect the TV picture. With the help of a heat source, e.g. a hairdryer, they simulate a longer operating time. In the meantime, they check various components on the circuit board and detect loose contacts, for example. If defects are difficult to locate, consult the manufacturer’s technical instructions, which are often written in English.
Office technology – well maintained
Information electronics technicians also repair and maintain office systems technology equipment, such as PCs or fax machines, scanners, copiers or projectors. As the appliances usually need to be repaired as quickly as possible, time pressure can arise. Information electronics technicians take a systematic approach to fault analysis, for example measuring the voltage at various soldering points or replacing specific parts. If the damage cannot be repaired immediately, they may provide the customer with a replacement device. They also advise on the benefits, features and costs of a new appliance and forward an order to their sales department.
Hardware and software know-how
Information electronics technicians are also computer experts: for example, they are familiar with the various components and functions – from the bus to the programming language to the appropriate driver software for installing hardware. They equip computer workstations with hardware, system and application software. They also plan and set up networks, i.e. they network several computers and the associated user programs with each other. Finally, they install the devices and secure their power supply. In doing so, they observe the safety regulations. Information electronics technicians always work in a service-oriented manner. This includes, for example, instructing customers on the new devices and programs and explaining to them exactly how to operate them. They also offer training courses for this.
Know the latest technology trends
Information electronics technicians are also increasingly installing and maintaining so-called smart home systems, in which, for example, home technology systems (in particular heating, air conditioning and lighting systems), security technology (such as alarm and surveillance systems) and communication technology (telephone and intercom systems, etc.) are networked to form an integrated home control system. All functions can then be operated simply and intuitively via touch-sensitive monitors, so-called touch panels. Such systems can both provide more comfort in the home and make everyday life easier for the elderly or people in need of care, for example.
