Your new job
IT systems administrator (m/f/d)
What is it about?
IT systems specialists design and implement customer-specific IT technology system solutions. They advise and train customers, design marketing strategies, prepare offers and invoice orders.
Commercial tasks and personal advice
In the office, IT system administrators handle the commercial part of their day-to-day business: they check their e-mails and process inquiries from suppliers and customers. Before they prepare a quotation, they calculate the costs for an order. They are also involved in drafting and processing contracts for an IT system. In addition, there are accounting tasks; all business transactions are recorded, receipts are filed and a final check is made to ensure that outstanding invoices have been paid on time. IT system administrators also send information mailings or newsletters to customers, write order confirmations, check the stock of consumables such as paper and toner, accept deliveries of goods or issue invoices, for example. An important part of her work is (telephone) customer service. IT systems specialists are often the first point of contact for software and hardware problems. This could be, for example, security in a network or technical problems with a domain. Despite time and deadline pressure, IT systems specialists always keep calm and find ways to restore the operational readiness of the IT system as quickly as possible. If they work in support, they can also be deployed in the evenings and at weekends.
Firewall and virus protection
Not only accounting, controlling or telephone customer service are part of the everyday work of IT system administrators. They often visit customers on site, clarify technical questions about hardware and software and check networks for potential security risks. For example, they examine how the customer handles e-mail, the Internet and passwords and how data is backed up. They also clarify how the server rooms are protected. After IT system specialists have identified all security risks, they propose a concept to the customer on how to protect the network. Complex firewall and virus protection systems must be set up and constantly updated. If the customer agrees with the proposals, the business people draw up a detailed concept, calculate the costs for internal and external services and prepare a quotation. Once the contract has been successfully concluded, they plan any necessary encryption and the installation of firewalls or virus protection, carry this out themselves if necessary and test the software. In addition, they contribute their expertise not only to the sale of the company’s own software or hardware, but also to user briefings and training after the installation of IT systems.

The range of tasks performed by IT systems specialists covers the entire field of current information and telecommunications technologies: from industry and standard systems to technical or commercial applications and learning systems.
